I was very encouraged reading about the research public health institutions such as Harvard are doing in the areas of nutrition to improve health and well being. Of course, these are early efforts and are complex tasks. One can only hope the big groups that are coming together now in this country to look at ways to improve health in more cost effective ways could help to accelerate these areas of research. It may not be as exciting to many compared with new gene editing drugs but it is an essential area of study for our society. Interestingly, it is the very same technical and scientific tools that are paving the way for innovations in this area such as tools to study our DNA, the microbiome, new database technologies, artificial intelligence….
